Oscar Piastri leads the Emilia Romagna GP after Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez collide during the last practice.

Emilia Romagna GP: Oscar Piastri quickest after Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso crash in final practice

At the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri led McLaren teammate Lando Norris through a hectic final practice that included two red lights.

After Sergio Perez wrecked at the Variante Chicane with five minutes left in the session, Piastri was the only leader to record a completely representative lap.

Earlier in the session, Fernando Alonso also crashed into the wall. Carlos Sainz of Ferrari led the way until Piastri and Norris stormed to the top of the timesheets at the finish.

After setting the pace for teammate Charles Leclerc on the opening runs of the final practice, who was fastest in both of Friday's practice sessions, Sainz came in third.

The Ferrari drivers were separated by just 0.020s, and it's unclear if they could have outperformed Piastri had they finished their last runs on the soft tyres.

Mercedes' George Russell finished sixth, but the Silver Arrows seemed to have trouble over the obstacles.

Because of Perez's incident, Red Bull made a lot of adjustments to their car over night and failed to run any noteworthy laps on the soft tyres.

the the medium tyres, Max Verstappen finished sixth, although his car appeared considerably better than it did the Friday.

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, battled in the last practice and finished 17th.
